The ESA Support To Science Elements initiative

Cryosat plus Cryosphere

Cryosat's mission is to precisely monitor changes in thickness of the worlds large ice masses including marine ice floating in the polar oceans, and the vast ice sheets that overlie Greenland and Antarctica. ESA's Cryosat+ Cryosphere project aims to provide a solid scientific basis for innovative science and new applications that may fully exploit the novel capabilities of the CryoSat mission under three themes:
  • Grounding line location, grounding line ice thickness and mass flux (fulfilled by the GLITter project)
  • Regional glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) and elevation rate corrections (fulfilled by the REGINA project)
  • Novel applications of CryoSat data (fulfilled by the CryoTop project)
